Maxwell, 30, signed for the Parisien giants from Barcelona, whom he has represented since 2009. His time at the Camp Nou brought huge success, but the full-back never managed to assert himself as a first-team regular at the club.

The Brazilian defender has won a Champions League title, two Club World Cups and a La Liga title in his time in Spain, having previously played in both Italy and Holland.

“From my first conversation with (director of football) Leonardo, I felt really wanted,” the former-Cruzeiro man said upon announcement.

“The invitation to join Paris made me very happy. The project and the prospects motivated me.”

The full-back will be invaluable to PSG over the coming weeks as the French club look to cover the absence of Siaka Tiéné, who has travelled with Ivory Coast to the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
