Sport Recife to return to the Brasileirão in 2012

In what is another shot in the arm for the football of the North-East of Brazil, Sport Recife have assured themselves of promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A with victory over Vila Nova this evening.

Sport secured the fourth and final promotion spot, with champions Portuguesa, Naútico and Ponte Preta already planning for next season, with a 1-0 win in Serra Dourada, courtesy of a Bruno Mineiro goal.

The victory, against a somewhat weakened Vila Nova team returns the Recife club to the big time on the final day of the season, finishing the league one point clear of Vítoria and denying the Bahia side an immediate return to the top flight.
