Santos to sign with Nike until 2016
Sambafoot reported only this morning that talks were underway between Nike and four Brazilian clubs about contracts for next season and Santos is set to be the first club to make the deal.
Besides the money involved, Santos have been seduced by two points: Nike's network of shops around the world - China alone has 2000, and the payment of royalties for all merchandise, not only official shirts.
With Neymar tied down until 2014, Nike are set to build the Santos brand internationally and increase production of other merchandise, as well as kid's shirts.
Umbro have first option on a new deal, but it is believed that with the numbers being discussed, the British brand will not be able to match the Nike offer. Whilst, politically, with Umbro now owned by Nike, it is unlikely that they would take on their parent company in a bidding war.
