America Mineiro & Avai relegated to Serie B
Sao Paulo 3 - 1 America Mineiro
A brace from Luis Fabiano, and a goal from Jean was enough to secure victory for Sao Paulo against America Mineiro, keeping the Tricolor's hopes of qualifying for next year's Copa Libertadores alive.
Their opponents, America Mineiro, did manage to get on the score sheet, but Alessandro's goal would only prove to some what of a consolation, as the side from Minas Gerias were defeated 3-1, sending them down to Serie B.
Vasco 2 - 0 Avai
Vasco managed to pick up a 2-0 win over Avai, with goals from Felipe and Elson, sending the Carioca side to the top of the league.
However, the defeat for Avai meant they'd be dropping out of Brazil's top division and down to Serie B.
Gremio 1 - 3 Ceara
Ceara are another side involved in the relegation scrap this season. The side from Fortaleza faced Gremio away from home and were desperate for all three points to keep their survival hopes alive.
Already secure from relegation and unable to qualify for next season's Libertadores, an incurious performance from Gremio was capitalised upon by Ceara.
Despite Douglas getting on the score sheet for the Porto Alegre side, his goal was cancelled out by a hatrick from Ceara striker, Felipe Azevedo, giving the Alvinegro side a huge three points.
A vital three points for Ceara, but the Fortaleza side still sit in the relegation zone with thirty eight points.
On Sunday, they'll be hoping fellow relegation strugglers, Cruzeiro, Atletico PR, Bahia and Atletico Mineiro all drop points with their games in hand, to increase their chances of avoiding relegation.
