Coach Mano Menezes confirmed he wanted to rest the AC Milan defender in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Gabon but ended up giving Silva a run out for the last ten minutes of the game.

The former Fluminense defender will now lead the Selecao out in Doha, replacing stand in captain, Luisao, who will drop to the bench.

Speaking to the press ahead of Monday’s friendly, Mano Menezes said, ”we will try to maintain the standard of our recent performances. We’ve had to make one or two changes for this game. Alex Sandro will replace Adriano, who has a small muscle injury. Fernandinho will be included in the starting line up too. We expect a tough game, and we are well prepared for it.”

Other changes from the side that faced Gabon on Thursday will include the return of Barcelona wing back, Daniel Alves, who was suspended and Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva will replace Tottenham’s Sandro in midfield.

Brazil’s starting XI to face Egypt: Diego Alves, Daniel Alves, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Alex Sandro, Lucas Leiva, Fernandinho, Hernanes, Bruno Cesar, Hulk and Jonas.
