Avaí 3×2 Botafogo

Goals from Robinho, Cléverson and Robert were enough to seal Avaí a victory that puts them well and truly back in the survival race. Botafogo had twice levelled through Loco Abreu and Renato, before right wing-back Lucas was dismissed and Robert turned up with a timely 86th minute intervention sent the home crowd into raptures.

It is a heavily damaging result for Botafogo’s title hopes, after defeat to Santos in the week, but Avaí are now just four points from safety with seven to play.

Fluminense 0 x 2 Atlético-MG

Goals from Daniel Carvalho and Dynamo Kiev loanee André were enough for Atlético Mineiro to seal an important away win at Fluminense and massively disrupt the Rio de Janeiro sides chances of winning the Brasileirão title.

After a first-half foul in the area by Mariano, former-CSKA wideman Daniel Carvalho stepped up to dispatch the penalty past Diego Cavalieri, before André made it two on the stroke of half-time.

The second-half was an end-to-end affair lacking only the goals of the opening period, however there was a red card for Fluminense’s Leandro Euzébio to keep proccedings interesting.

Atlético Mineiro now jump Ceará and Cruzeiro, both of whom play tomorrow into 15th, and look to be playing with confidence for the first time in a long time.
