After twenty-two games which brought only seven wins for the title chasers (alongside nine draws and six defeats), Adilson Batista’s unsuccesful reign as coach of the Paulista side is over, with the club’s title dream all but dead after tonight’s defeat.

The coach was appointed in July after what many deemed the harsh sacking of Paulo César Carpegiani, who had started the league in fine fashion with five straight wins.

São Paulo’s season was hit badly by international call-ups and the side have struggled to regain any of the early season momentum under Batista.
