Speaking to journalist Leandro Quesada, Marcos said: “I argued that the players should not stop the team traveling to Rio. The team can not stop playing, it will come back to hurt us.”

“A few fans do not represent the entirety of our 15 million supporters.”

“Palmeiras can not put on security 24 hours a day for all players. This is impossible.”

Kléber on the other hand looks set to leave the club, having fallen out with club officials and manager Luis Felipe Scolari on the club’s lack of response.

Kléber led the player’s protests, having personally felt the danger of the fans who have been involved with confrontations with several players in recent times.
