Gomes suffered from a brain haemorrage recently and is still in a critical condition, but Romario says that Vasco can use it to spur them on in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
“What has happened to Ricardo is unfortunate, but it will give strength to Vasco,” said the ex-Brazil striker. “With this momentum, they can probably win the championship.
“It is a very important time. I went to visit him in the hospital and spoke to the doctor, and they are hoping his condition will soon improve.
“I will pray very hard that he recovers, because he is an impressive character, and stands for everything that is good about football.”
Vasco are currently second in the Brasileirão table, two points behind leaders Corinthians.
