Of the Seleção players who featured that day, four (Julio Cesar, Lucio, Alves and Ronaldinho) could do so again on Monday.

June 27 2006 – Brazil 3-0 Ghana (World Cup Second Round – Dortmund, Germany)

It was a special day in football history, as Ronaldo became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the World Cup.

His record-breaking strike was added to by Adriano and Ze Roberto as the Seleção comfortably progressed to the quarter-finals, where they would go on to lose to France.

Asamoah Gyan was dismissed for Ghana as they exited their first ever World Cup.

July 28 1996 – Brazil 4-2 Ghana (Olympic Games Quarter-Final – Miami, USA)

Although not a senior international fixture, Brazil and Ghana still played out a classic at the 1996 Olympics. An own-goal from Duodu put Brazil in front, before the Black Stars shocked their opponents by taking a 2-1 lead.

The Seleção recovered to win with goals from Ronaldo (2) and Bebeto, and the likes of Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo and Juninho Paulista were on their way to the semi-finals, where they lost to Nigeria.
