Socrates, 57, fell ill on Friday night according to Lancenet with what was diagnosed as a digestive haemorrhage and will now undergo medical tests in the Intensive Care Unit of Albert Einstein Hospital, Sao Paulo.
As yet, no details have been released about the condition of the former Corinthians attacking midfielder, who played 60 times for Brazil and scored 22 goals between 1979 and 1986.
He started his career at Botafogo before joining Corinthians, and also played for Fiorentina, Flamengo, Santos and very briefly at Garforth Town at the age of 50.
