Some of Brazil's well-known players took part in the Europa League last night, and three in particular enjoyed promising results.

Elias of Atletico Madrid scored twice to ensure a 2-0 win over Vitoria de Guimaraes. The midfielder, who is a regular in the Seleção squad, broke the deadlock on 68 minutes and added a second five minutes later.

Lazio thrashed Rabotnicki 6-0, with Hernanes opening the scoring for the Italian side. Further goals from Stefano Mauri, Djibril Cisse (2), Tommaso Rocchi and Miroslav Klose gave the home side a comfortable victory.

Tottenham Hotspur eased to a 5-0 away win against Hearts in the 'Battle of Britain' tie. Rafael van der Vaart put Spurs in front, and was joined on the scoresheet by Jermain Defoe, Jake Livermore, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon. Heurelho Gomes kept a clean sheet for the North Londoners.
