Ronaldinho is playing through the pain-barrier for Barcelona, with both his ankles giving him problems.

The Brazilian hurt his right ankle against Espanyol earlier this season, but was able to play on without much discomfort.

However, he picked up a blow on his left ankle against Malaga at the start of this month and now he is struggling.

He was subdued against Albacete at the weekend and it is now being reported that he played only after he insisted to coach Frank Rijkaard that he was fit.

Ronaldinho was rested against Shakhtar Donetsk and he will also not be involved against Ajax in a friendly this week.

Barca confirmed that Ronaldinho was now receiving treatment

“Problems with his left ankle dragged on through last week. After treatment, he played without the injury affecting his game,” said a Barca statement.

“He has had slight swelling on the ankle, but it doesn’t look serious. He will continue to undergo the physiotherapy started last week. It’s best that he doesn’t play for the next two-to-three days.”

Ronaldinho will continue until late December when Spanish football enjoys a two-week holiday, by which time it is hoped the Samba star will be fully recovered.
