The 26-year-old centre-back has played every minute of Brazil’s three matches so far, but missed training on Friday. His fitness will be reassessed by the Seleção team doctors in Saturday’s session.

The Brazilian football federation (CBF) have said that the injury is a natural result of fatigue, and that they will give Thiago Silva every chance to prove he is ready in training on Saturday, the final session before Sunday’s game.

If Thiago Silva does not recover in time, coach Mano Menezes is likely to replace him with Chelsea’s David Luiz. Menezes also has the option of playing Luisão of Benfica alongside Lucio.
