Tevez’s future has been a source a constant speculation in recent months, with the 27-year-old reportedly unsettled at the club and not enjoying life in Manchester. He has stated his desire to be closer to his children and their mother, who live in Argentina.

“Negotiations have already begun,” said Kia Joorabchian, Tevez’s agent. “Corinthians are in contact with us. Carlos’ dream and mine is to see him back with them. He said he has a job that does not end there, and he dreams of winning the Copa Libertadores.

“Corinthians have made the offer. Now, it only depends on Manchester City. They must make a decision. Everybody is working to make this happen. It is impossible to determine the situation, but I think it is close.”

Duilio Monteiro Alves, Corinthians’ director of football, also confirmed the bid, saying: “I don’t want to get our fans’ hopes up. We will try, that’s all I can say. Signing Tevez is not impossible. It is a dream we are trying to realise.”

The move could see Tevez return to the side he played for between 2004 and 2006, before he left to join West Ham United and begin his spell in England, which has also seen him play for Manchester United.
