Renato resigned on Thursday after four games without a win, and now Julinho has left his position as assistant manager at Internacional as he edges closer to filling the vacancy.

Ivan Soares, who has worked with Julinho at both Internacional and the youth teams of Gremio, confirmed that both were close to being appointed by Imortal Tricolor.

“Julinho has spoken with Gremio officials and asked about the possibility of me working with him,” said Soares. “We have worked with almost 40% of the current squad during our time with the youth teams.”

Gremio will hope that Julinho can lead them up the Brasileirão table, with the side currently sitting in 11th in the table but just three points off the relegation zone.
