Pato, 21, had been linked with a move to Napoli as part of a swap deal for Marek Hamsik, but told Don Balon: “I want to become a pillar of this club and will never leave here.

“I want to become a symbol of Milan"s history; one of those players who leaves great memories and trophies. I have a contract until 2014 and I want to remain with Milan as long as possible until they get tired of me.

“Now I want to continue to win because [winning] the league [last season] is just the beginning of a string of triumphs," concluded the Brazilian.

Since joining the club from Internacional in 2007, Pato has played 124 times and scored 57 goals. Last season, he hit 14 in 25 league games as Milan won the Serie A title for the first time since 2004.
