The winner of tonight’s game between Penarol and Santos will raise the Copa Libertadores trophy. The stadium will be jam packed as the tickets are sold out and we can expect a great show from Santos’ supporters.
Sambafoot decided to interview one of them to see how they were coping with the rising pressure and excitement as the game approaches. Eduardo Szmuszkowicz, 18, has been a Santos’ fan since a very young age. He told us about his passion and his hopes for tonight’s final.
How do you feel about tonight’s final?
I have great hopes. It seems that the time is stuck, I’m anxious to see the start of this big final with such a beautiful team.
Are you going to the stadium? Was I difficult to get a ticket?
I was lucky to get a ticket, it wasn’t easy. I woke up at 3am and went to the stadium. When I arrived there, the security guard told me that they were so many people in front of me that I wouldn’t get a ticket. So I went to another ticket office and there I managed to get one. I came back home at 10am.
As a fan, what do you think of how the tickets were sold?
I think it was good, it reduces the sales on the black market. And the stadium will be full like in Europe.
Why are you a Santos’ fan? Is the entire family supporting Santos?
Since I was born I’m a santista. My parents gave me the virus.
But you are a fanatic, how did that happened?
When I was a kid, Santos started to play well and win titles. Combined with the influence of my parents I became a strong supporter of the team at a very young age.
For the fans like you who are the key figures of the team?
There are many: Neymar is the main player of the team. He can make the difference and change a game alone. The other key player is Rafael, if we are in the final it is thanks to him.
What is your guess for tonight?
I think Santos will win 2-0 with goals from Neymar and Leo.
