After losing 1-0 at home to Bahia on Saturday, last year’s champions Fluminense have only picked up six points from their opening five games.

Despite the results, Braga, who recently took over as manager, says the defeats make him stronger, and that he is confident he can turn things around.

“The bad start gives me more strength and does not change anything,” he said. “I’m sure I can find the best staff and ensure better training. The important thing is that I am counting on the collaboration of all the players.

“When you do not win, the errors appear more clearly,” continued Braga. “Sometimes a win can mask these problems.”

The 58-year-old also offered his support to striker Fred, who was booed by the Fluminense fans, and said he would be missed while he was away with Brazil at the Copa America.

“Fred is a Fluminense player but will be away with the Brazil team, so of course we will miss him,” he added. “Today (Saturday) he was man-marked, and there was always someone on him.

“He had some difficulties, but he will be missed, yes.”
