The 32-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Al-Ahli after four years in Germany, during which he scored 75 goals in 130 games and helped the side to win its first Bundesliga title in 2008-09.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Grafite said: “I would like to thank the club for four brilliant years in a fantastic country and at a wonderful club. I have made many friends in this time period, who will always remain with me.

“I have had many successes – I was German player of the year, I won the league title and I was the league’s top goalscorer. Now at the age of 32, it is time for me and my family to try something new,” he added.

Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath paid tribute to the outgoing striker. “Grafite will always be a part of Wolfsburg’s history and his name will always be associated with the Championship win,” he said.

“Together with Edin Dzeko, he had an extraordinary season. I wish him all the best for his new challenge.”

Grafite has played four times for Brazil, scoring once, and was a part of the Seleção’s 2010 World Cup squad.
