The Brazilian number one joined Inter from Flamengo in 2005, and has gone on to make over 400 appearances. He has gone on to forge a reputation as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the world, and has also cemented his place as undisputed first choice for the Seleção.

Cesar, 31, helped Inter lift the Coppa Italia on Sunday, but Sky Sport Italia believes that the club are hoping to seal a permanent deal for Emiliano Viviano, who they currently co-own with Bologna. Viviano is said to want first-team football guaranteed, which Inter are ready to make possible by offering Julio Cesar to Roma.

Viviano has been co-owned by Bologna since 2009 and is the subject of interest from many Italian sides. He is currently Italy’s second choice goalkeeper, behind only the great Gianluigi Buffon, and has played five times for the national side, also appearing at the 2008 Olympic Games.

It comes as something of a surprise, as Julio Cesar is still young by a goalkeeper’s standards, and still an important player for Brazil. He played at last summer’s World Cup, and will do again at the upcoming Copa America, where he will add to his 55 caps.

He was linked to Manchester United in February as a possible replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar, but claimed he would be staying put, telling La Gazzetta delo Sport: “I don’t see why I should change club when my contract expires in 2014. If the club has something to tell me in the future then I will sit down with president Massimo Moratti and speak with him.”
