Neymar is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and as well as Juventus, is wanted by Chelsea and Real Madrid. He is one of the hottest properties in football at the moment, and is expected to leave Santos this summer.

But Emerson, who won 73 caps for the Seleção and played for the Italian giants between 2004 and 2006, told Tuttosport: “Neymar is a phenomenon, but I am not sure that he is suitable for Italy. I would see him better in Spain.”

When pressed for an alternative, Emerson responded: “Lucas Moura, from Sao Paulo. He is a second striker or attacking midfielder, and he is already very suitable for Italian football.”

Lucas made his debut for Sao Paulo last year, and was named by FIFA as one of their players to watch in 2011, describing him as being at the forefront of emerging Brazilian talent due to ‘creative genius, flair and dribbling ability.’

He helped the Brazil under-20s to win the 2011 South American Youth Championship in February, scoring four goals in the process, and made his debut for the senior team against Scotland in March.
