After one week in his new role as coach of Santos, Vágner Mancini has ruled out the idea of signing former Brazil captain Cafu.

With player registrations needing to be finalized for the São Paulo State Championship this Friday, Santos are thought to be looking to add right sided defender to their squad with 39 year old Cafu being heavily mentioned.

However, former Vitória coach Vágner Mancini, has dismissed the idea of Santos making an approach for Brazil’s most capped player, citing Cafu’s age as a problem with the Santos squad already having a number of players aged over 30.

Santos are currently fourth in the São Paulo state championship having taken 16 points from 9 games.
