The FC Barcelona striker, Neymar, has won the Samba Gold for the first time. The prize is the annual election of the best Brazilian player in Europe. The new captain of the Seleção left his competitors far behind with 29.20% of the votes. It was the first time that Neymar participated since the existence of the trophy in 2008. He succeeds PSG defender Thiago Silva, who won the last three editions.

Miranda, defender of Atlético Madrid and a regular at the back of the Brazilian team, finished in second place. The former Sochaux player is closely followed by midfielder Felipe Melo from Galatasaray, accustomed to ending at the top of the standings with a massive mobilization of Galatasaray supporters.

With 11 goals in 13 official matches with Barcelona this season, the former Santos player performs a good season on the old continent despite the tragic elimination of Brazil at the 2014 World Cup.

Neymar was able to count on the participation of nearly 180,000 users, a record since the birth of ‘Samba d’Or’. A panel of international journalists (Paulo Vinicius Coelho, Andy Brassel, Tancredi Palmeri) and eleven Brazilian former internationals (Taffarel, Junior, Juninho Pernambucano) also contributed to elect the Auriverde star.

The winner will receive the Samba Gold trophy 2014 in Barcelona in February.
