Ramires has been cut from the Brazil squad to face Russia on Monday, having reported for duty accompanied by Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro.

Shortly after arriving at the team hotel, though, it was confirmed that the midfielder would miss out with a right thigh injury.

It had been expected that Ramires would present himself on Saturday, when the team arrived from Switzerland. However, he would arrive at the Sunday morning to confirm his absence.

Ramires has been a regular in the Brazil side since returning to the squad after the Olympic Games. However, both he and partner Paulinho have been absent from the current fixtures with Russia and Italy.

Chelsea teammates Oscar and David Luiz remain part of the squad for the fixture at Stamford Bridge where they will play in their home club stadium.

For the fixture with Italy, manager Felipe Luiz Scolari elected to start with Grêmio midfielder Fernando and Lazio’s Hernanes in the centre of the park.
