It had taken the Tricolor das Laranjeiras just thirteen minutes to open the scoring when Souza’s cross from the right found an unmarked Rafael Moura waiting inside the Friburguense area. The big man teed up his strike partner Araújo who made no mistake in putting away his effort from 12-yards out.

Ten minutes before the interval, Rafael Moura himself doubled Flu’s lead reacting first to Martinuccio’s rebounded shot, tapping the ball in from six-yards out.

Meanwhile, just moments before the referee blew for half time Friburguense had a great opportunity to get themselves back in the game. Midfielder Jorge Luiz was left unmarked at the back post but failed to convert his header which rattled the Fluminense cross bar.

Before Friburguense even had the chance to attempt a comeback, Fluminense debutant Thiago Carleto managed to put the game to bed. The 22-year old made the points safe for Flu when he smashed home a free-kick just seven minutes in to the second half.
