A squad of thirty players has been named, with ten more to be omitted before the start of the tournament. Whilst Fluminense are the side supplying the most representatives to the party with six youngsters invloved.
The star of the ‘Sub-15′ squad is undoubtedly Santos’ young midfielder Gabriel Barbosa.
The star, whose six goals inspired Santos to a Brazil Youth Championship, was signed eight years ago (aged just seven) having scored five times in a match for São Paulo against, you guessed it, Santos!
The midfielder, who likes to be known as ‘Gabigol’ already receives £6000 a month (R$18000) from Santos as a training contract, also covering image rights, an extraordinary figure for someone aged just fifteen.
Now, he will have the opportunity to shine with the National Team in Uruguay and prove that ‘Gabigol’ is more than just a name.
